What to Expect with Live Dealer Blackjack

When it comes to playing blackjack, sometimes it just feels better to be playing with an actual dealer rather than a computer generated program that randomly shuffles the cards after every deck. There are certain comforts and advantages to playing these live dealers rather than the online blackjack game.

1) You can see the dealer shuffle the cards and the deck isn’t shuffled after every hand. If you like to count cards, I don’t recommend that you do this with any automated blackjack game. Unless the game specifically states that it doesn’t shuffle after each hand, you have to assume that the program does.

2) If you are like me, you may get flustered to down right frustrated at times. When you are playing a computer blackjack game, you have the option to go really fast. A good player can get 10 hands per minute. That works very well for some people, but consider the following scenario:

You’ve been playing blackjack for 6 hours straight. You’re up $100 overall. You could call it quits but that isn’t enough profit to be satisfied with playing for 6 hours. You up the amount you are betting and run into a cold streak. This is amplified by the dealer getting really lucky. Your frustration leads to fast played games at amounts higher than you should be betting. Very soon, you’ve gone bust because you couldn’t slow down.

That’s why I like to play the live dealer blackjack. You can only get dealt about 1 hand per minute. This never ensures that you won’t bet like a jackass if you run into bad luck; it only prevents you from having that momentary lapse in judgement for a minute after a long night and blowing a chunk of your bankroll.

What it’s like playing a live blackjack dealer online

When you are playing online, you will see the cards easily because they make the deck large enough to see. Many times, these cards actually have a barcode on the face side of the card so it can be scanned and displayed on your screen.

The lovely dealer will actually be looking at a screen which will tell her your decision along with the current score of the cards shown. Once the dealer scans a card that you hit, you will know whether you have busted slightly before the card is displayed.

You will have the option to pre-check your decision (hit, stand, double down, split) while you are waiting so the dealer will be shown this and will not have to wait for your action.

Downsides

Sometimes, the action is too slow. Just like online poker, there are people who play considerately and move the flow of the game a bit faster and there are people who are inattentive or inconsiderate and take forever to make basic decisions. If you have a large bet on the table a tough decision, that’s one thing; but if you are doing this every hand, then stop watching the television and pay attention.
